FGV agrees to suspend service between Calpe and Denia TRAM to improve safety
The Board of Directors of Railways of the Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) has agreed to temporarily suspend rail service on the stretch between Calpe and Denia Line 9 TRAM of Alicante until the works of modernization and refurbishment which has provided the company made public. So have spoken Council members after the manager of the entity, Flag Angel Garcia, has presented this morning a report of the situation and the actions taken and planned proposals for action.
Therefore, and pending the renovation of roads and infrastructure as well as installation of Automatic Blocking and ATP (Automatic Train Protection) between Calpe and Denia, will remain closed line and alternative buses are enabled to do this route, with stops at the stations themselves or close points and current schedules.
The manager FGV has submitted to the Board of Directors the different work that has been done to analyze the condition of the road and the emergency measures adopted in the Safety Commissions made in the last two weeks, among which is the reduction speed 40 km / h. Given this, it has taken the decision to suspend the service until the line meets the standards of comfort and quality of the rest of the network of FGV for which tasks of modernization of roads and installation of security systems be made .
Among the first steps have been made, include the renovation project of roads and bridges between the 11 kilometers between Altea and Calpe and took place between October 2015 and May 2016. In addition, it has also been applied Automatic locking system and ATP between Benidorm and Calp.
Therefore, from October, FGV will continue with this work and act in the most difficult stretch between Calpe and Denia which are planned various renovation and installation Auto Lock and ATP with a budget of almost six million euros .
The manager of FGV director has also announced that later this year the works of improvement of facilities and preparation of communications necessary for the installation of Block Automatic and ATP in stations Teulada, Gata de Gorgos and Dénia are restarted, which has a budget of six million euros.
In 2017 the renovation of track and infrastructure section Calp-Teulada with an investment of over 14 million euros and later the Teulada-Gata de Gorgos and Gata de Gorgos-Dénia sections will be undertaken, and that will open up the service as its renovation and installation Auto Lock and ATP is completed.
However, we must also remember the various actions that have already been made at this stage since have increased surveillance work regarding the route and has allocated more than 100,000 euros to work urgent maintenance to act immediately in the most damaged points in this section.
