Thousands of spectators lined the streets of Oliva, Valencia, on Saturday evening for one of the most anticipated events of the Moros y Cristianos festival – the spectacular Entrada Mora (Moorish Parade). Filled with magnificent costumes, stirring music, dancing and impressive pageantry, the parade transformed the town into a vibrant celebration of history, tradition and community spirit.

The Entrada Mora represents the symbolic arrival of the Moorish armies and forms one half of the famous Moros y Cristianos festivities that are celebrated throughout the Valencian Community. While inspired by the historical conflicts between Moors and Christians during the Reconquista, today’s celebrations are entirely festive, bringing together local filaes (groups) who spend months preparing elaborate costumes, choreography and performances.

This year’s parade featured six Moorish filaes, each bringing its own distinctive style, colours and musical accompaniment. Every group marched proudly through Oliva’s streets to the applause of thousands of residents and visitors who had gathered to witness one of the highlights of the town’s annual fiesta calendar.

Leading the celebrations were this year’s Moorish Captains, who made a spectacular entrance surrounded by an impressive entourage of attendants, musicians and standard bearers. Their richly decorated costumes, detailed embroidery and striking headpieces made them one of the standout moments of the evening, perfectly capturing the grandeur that the Entrada Mora is famous for.

Throughout the parade, each filà showcased its own unique identity. Some opted for traditional Moorish robes in deep blues, emerald greens and gold, while others combined dramatic armour, flowing cloaks and ornate accessories. Live marching bands accompanied every group, filling the streets with powerful Moorish marches whose rhythmic percussion and brass sections echoed through Oliva’s historic centre.

• Filà Marràqueix (Captaincy 2026)
• Filà Taifes
• Filà Moriscos

Each brought something different to the parade, from elegant choreographed walking formations to dramatic flag displays and richly decorated banners, ensuring that spectators were treated to a constantly changing spectacle throughout the evening.

One of the defining features of the Entrada Mora is the incredible attention to detail. Many costumes are handcrafted and feature intricate embroidery, metallic decorations and elaborate jewellery. Combined with the atmospheric music and carefully rehearsed performances, the result is an unforgettable display that attracts visitors from across Spain and beyond.

The festival culminates with the symbolic Reconquest of the Castle, where the Moorish and Christian armies stage an exciting re-enactment complete with black-powder arquebuses, cannon fire and the retaking of the castle by the Christian forces. This spectacular finale draws huge crowds every year and brings the festivities to a dramatic close.
