Moors and Christians Grand Parade in Daimús 2026
Every summer, towns and villages across the Valencian Community come alive with one of Spain’s most spectacular and historic celebrations – Moros y Cristianos. In 2026, the coastal town of Daimús, Valencia, Spain, once again hosted its colourful Gran Desfile (Grand Parade), filling the streets with music, magnificent costumes, themed floats, dancers and an unforgettable fireworks finale.
Although Daimús is best known for its beautiful sandy beach and relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere, the town transforms during its annual fiestas. Residents and visitors gather to enjoy one of the region’s most important cultural traditions, celebrating history while showcasing the creativity and community spirit that make these festivals so special.
A Festival with Centuries of History
The Moros y Cristianos festivals commemorate the historical conflicts between the Muslim Moors and the Christian kingdoms during the Reconquista, a period that shaped much of Spain’s medieval history.
Today, the celebrations are not a re-enactment of war but a colourful tribute to local heritage. Every parade combines history, theatre, music and pageantry, creating an atmosphere that is both entertaining and deeply rooted in Valencian tradition.
Across the provinces of Valencia and Alicante, almost every town has developed its own unique interpretation of the festival, meaning no two parades are ever quite the same.

Leading this year’s celebrations was the 2026 Captaincy (Capitania), proudly represented by Filà El Sultan. The Captaincy is one of the highest honours within the festival and is responsible for organising many of the year’s major events.
Joining the Captaincy were the participating filàs, each bringing its own distinctive style, costumes and music to the streets of Daimús:
- Almogàvers
- Bucaners
- Templaris
- Els Creuats
- Contrabandistes
- Abd Al Malik
- Almoràvides
- Ali Ben Alà
- El Sultan (2026 Captaincy)
Every group spends months preparing for the celebrations, designing costumes, rehearsing with marching bands and creating an unforgettable spectacle for thousands of spectators.
Music, Costumes and Tradition
One of the defining features of every Moros y Cristianos parade is the music.
Each filà marches alongside a live band performing traditional Marchas Moras and Marchas Cristianas, creating the powerful soundtrack that accompanies the parade through the streets.
The costumes are equally impressive. Rich embroidery, ornate armour, flowing robes, feathers and elaborate headpieces reflect both historical inspiration and modern artistic creativity. Together they create one of Spain’s most photogenic festivals and attract visitors from around the world.
A Perfect Summer Destination
Located just south of Gandia, Daimús offers much more than its annual fiestas.
Its wide sandy beach, promenade, Mediterranean restaurants and welcoming atmosphere make it an ideal destination for visitors exploring the southern Valencia coastline. Combining a beach holiday with one of the region’s traditional festivals provides a unique opportunity to experience authentic Spanish culture away from the larger tourist resorts.
