Every June, beaches across Spain come alive with one of the country’s most magical and eagerly anticipated celebrations. Known as Noche de San Juan throughout Spain and Nit de Sant Joan in the Valencian Community, this centuries-old festival combines fire, tradition, music and community spirit to celebrate the arrival of summer. Some write wishes on pieces of paper before burning them in the flames, believing the fire will help bring good fortune during the coming year. Others walk into the sea at midnight, with local traditions suggesting that entering the water on San Juan night can bring health, happiness and good luck.

Playa de Gandia is already one of the Costa de Valencia’s most popular seaside destinations, attracting visitors throughout the summer thanks to its Blue Flag beach, wide promenade and family-friendly atmosphere. During San Juan, however, the beach takes on a completely different character as thousands gather to celebrate together beneath the stars.
