Held on the Saturday before Carnival, this event features a race down the Bullent River—situated in the Marjal Pego-Oliva Natural Park—on homemade, eco-friendly rafts. Participants don creative costumes, adding a lively and humorous touch to the festivities.

Originating in 1986, the Baixà began as a fun initiative by a group of friends to promote river conservation and environmental awareness. Over time, it has grown in popularity, drawing both participants and spectators from Pego and neighboring towns. Today, it marks the unofficial start of Pego’s Carnival celebrations.

For nearly 40 years, the event has maintained its playful yet symbolic spirit, encouraging imaginative raft designs and environmental activism. It has also helped spotlight the Marjal Pego-Oliva Natural Park, promoting sustainable tourism and showcasing the area’s rich biodiversity.

El Baixà del Riu Bullent (Descenso del río Bullent) es una fiesta anual muy querida en Pego, un pueblo de la comarca de la Marina Alta de España. Este evento, que se celebra el sábado anterior al Carnaval, consiste en una carrera por el río Bullent (situado en el Parque Natural Marjal Pego-Oliva) en balsas caseras y ecológicas. Los participantes se visten con disfraces creativos, lo que añade un toque animado y divertido a las festividades.

El Baixà, que se originó en 1986, comenzó como una iniciativa divertida de un grupo de amigos para promover la conservación del río y la concienciación medioambiental.
