Gandia’s Planta de Fallas marks the solemn beginning of the Fallas festival, a cherished Valencian tradition filled with impressive sculptures, fireworks, and cultural celebrations every year. Held annually in March, planta refers to the installation of the intricate and imaginative falla monuments, which local artisans and falleros spend months designing and constructing.

On the night of March 15, the planta takes place in Gandia, as different casals fallers (falla committees) work tirelessly, day and night, to finish their monuments just in time for the judging on March 16. The fallas themselves, often satirical, feature witty political and social commentary through creative sculptures made of wood, papier-mâché, and other materials, showcasing the region’s rich art and culture.

Building these monuments is a community affair, with people of all ages contributing from the local neighborhoods. The planta night is filled with excitement as each district unveils its completed falla, hoping to win awards before the grand finale of the festival on March 19, La Cremà, when the monuments are dramatically set on fire.

In Gandia, as in other Valencian towns, Fallas is celebrated with music, traditional dress, and mascletàs (daytime firework displays). The Planta de Fallas is more than just the physical construction of monuments—it represents months of creativity, teamwork, and dedication, making it a highly anticipated and beloved moment for both the city and its people.

La Planta de Fallas de Gandía marca el solemne inicio de las Fallas, una preciada tradición valenciana repleta de impresionantes esculturas, fuegos artificiales y celebraciones culturales cada año. Celebrada anualmente en marzo, la planta se refiere a la instalación de los intrincados e imaginativos monumentos falleros, cuyo diseño y construcción invierten meses los artesanos y falleros locales.

La noche del 15 de marzo, la planta tiene lugar en Gandía, donde diferentes casals falleros trabajan incansablemente, día y noche, para terminar sus monumentos justo a tiempo para el juicio del 16 de marzo. Las fallas, a menudo satíricas, presentan ingeniosos comentarios políticos y sociales a través de creativas esculturas de madera, papel maché y otros materiales, que muestran la riqueza artística y cultural de la región.

La construcción de estos monumentos es un asunto comunitario, en el que participan personas de todas las edades de los barrios locales. La noche de la Planta de Fallas se llena de emoción, ya que cada distrito presenta su falla terminada, con la esperanza de ganar premios antes de la gran final del festival, el 19 de marzo, La Cremà, cuando los monumentos son incendiados dramáticamente.

En Gandía, como en otras localidades valencianas, las Fallas se celebran con música, trajes tradicionales y mascletàs (espectáculos pirotécnicos diurnos). La Planta de Fallas es mucho más que la simple construcción de monumentos: representa meses de creatividad, trabajo en equipo y dedicación, lo que la convierte en un momento muy esperado y entrañable tanto para la ciudad como para sus habitantes.
