We headed down to the fairground in Gandía to watch the last of the rides being taken apart and packed away onto lorries for their journey to the next destination. After a week of bright lights, laughter, and music during the Fira i Festes, the site had fallen almost silent — only the rhythmic sounds of metal clanging and hydraulic lifts breaking the stillness.

One of the final attractions to go was a section of rollercoaster track, its cars locked neatly in place as cranes slowly lifted and lowered the pieces onto transport trailers. It was like watching “Rollercoaster Tycoon” or “Planet Coaster” come to life — a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the craftsmanship and coordination that make these mobile amusement parks possible.

This year, though, the dismantling was different. Just days earlier, the mid-October rainstorms brought by Storm Alice had swept across Gandía, flooding parts of the fairground and delaying the usual post-festival breakdown. Puddles still shimmered under the soft morning light, reflecting the faded neon signs and the skeletons of half-packed rides. Workers moved carefully over damp ground, their boots squelching in the mud as generators hummed faintly in the background.

Despite the weather’s chaos, there was a quiet determination in the air — a sense of routine and resilience. Piece by piece, the fairground returned to calm, leaving only echoes of laughter, the scent of sweet churros, and memories of a festival that even the storms couldn’t wash away.

Tras una semana de luces brillantes, risas y música durante la Fira i Festes, el recinto se había quedado prácticamente en silencio; solo el rítmico sonido del metal al chocar y los ascensores hidráulicos rompía la quietud.

Una de las últimas atracciones en desaparecer era un tramo de la pista de una montaña rusa, con sus vagones perfectamente fijados mientras las grúas subían y bajaban lentamente las piezas a remolques de transporte. Era como ver cómo “Rollercoaster Tycoon” o “Planet Coaster” cobraban vida: una fascinante mirada entre bastidores a la artesanía y la coordinación que hacen posibles estos parques de atracciones móviles.

Este año, sin embargo, el desmontaje fue diferente. Apenas unos días antes, las tormentas de mediados de octubre provocadas por la tormenta Alice habían azotado Gandía, inundando partes del recinto ferial y retrasando la habitual avería posterior al festival. Los charcos aún brillaban bajo la suave luz de la mañana, reflejando los descoloridos letreros de neón y los esqueletos de las atracciones a medio llenar. Los trabajadores avanzaban con cuidado sobre el suelo húmedo, sus botas chapoteando en el barro mientras los generadores zumbaban débilmente de fondo.

A pesar del caos del clima, se respiraba una silenciosa determinación en el aire: una sensación de rutina y resiliencia. Poco a poco, el recinto ferial volvió a la calma, dejando solo ecos de risas, el aroma de churros dulces y los recuerdos de un festival que ni las tormentas pudieron borrar.
