This walking video begins in Plaça Major, the historic centre of Gandía and home to both the Town Hall and the impressive Collegiate Basilica. Early in the morning the square is still peaceful, with only a handful of people moving through the streets as local businesses begin to open for the day.
From here, the route passes one of the city’s most important landmarks — the Ducal Palace of Gandía. Once home to the powerful Borja family, better known internationally as the Borgias, the palace remains one of the most visited historic buildings in the area. Parts of the structure date back to the 14th century and it plays a major role in the history of the city.
Continuing through the centre of Gandía, the walk passes the Casa de la Cultura Marqués de González de Quirós and its gardens, one of the quieter green spaces in the city. The route then reaches Plaça del Prado, home to the renovated market building and a popular meeting point for local residents.
From there the walk follows the Passeig de les Germanies, the main boulevard running through Gandía. Lined with trees, cafés, terraces, and shops, this paseo forms the centre of daily life in the city. During the warmer months, the shade from the large trees makes it one of the most pleasant places to walk.
As the walk continues west along the paseo, the atmosphere gradually changes as more people begin arriving for Gandía’s weekly Saturday market.
The Gandía street market is held every Saturday morning and stretches along the western end of the Passeig de les Germanies. The market usually begins early in the morning, with most stalls operating between approximately 8am and 2pm, although the busiest period is often between 10am and midday.
Visitors can find a wide variety of stalls selling fresh fruit and vegetables, clothing, shoes, household goods, plants, and local produce. Alongside the shopping, the market also provides a glimpse into everyday local life, with residents meeting friends, stopping for churros and coffee, and browsing the stalls at a relaxed pace.
One of the more entertaining parts of the market is often the low-cost clothing stalls, where bargain hunters search through large piles of discounted items looking for deals. It creates a lively contrast to the peaceful atmosphere found at the beginning of the walk through the old town.
For visitors staying in Gandía or nearby coastal areas, the Saturday market is a good way to experience a more authentic side of the city beyond the beaches and tourist areas. Combined with the historic centre, tree-lined paseo, and local cafés, it offers a relaxing but interesting morning walk through one of the most important towns in the Valencia region of Spain.
