Tough Conditions at Triatló Ciutat de Gandia 2026
The Triatló Ciutat de Gandia 2026 brought another day of swim, bike, and run action to the coast, with athletes taking on a sprint-distance course around the Grau de Gandia. Held in April, the event once again showcased the town’s growing reputation as a destination for endurance sports in the Valencian Community.
The race followed the standard sprint triathlon format, beginning with a 750-metre swim in the harbour area near the port. From there, competitors transitioned quickly onto the bike for a 21.5 km ride along the flat coastal roads, before finishing with a 5 km run along the seafront promenade and surrounding areas.
While the course itself is relatively fast and accessible, conditions on the day added an extra layer of difficulty. Gusty winds and light rain created damp road surfaces, making the cycling section particularly challenging. Riders had to manage grip on corners and deal with crosswinds in more exposed stretches, something that was noticeable throughout the race.
Despite the weather, the event drew a strong turnout, with hundreds of athletes taking part across the different categories. The women’s race started first, followed shortly after by the men’s race, with both groups facing the same testing conditions.

One of the strengths of the Triatló Ciutat de Gandia is its location. The combination of harbour, beachfront, and promenade provides a varied but compact course that is easy to follow for spectators. It also makes it an appealing event for athletes looking for a coastal race with a straightforward layout but enough challenge to keep things interesting.
The damp conditions arguably made for a more compelling race, particularly on the bike section where caution and control became just as important as speed. While times may not have been as fast as in perfect weather, the technical demands added another dimension to the competition.
Events like this continue to highlight Gandia’s role as a hub for local sporting activity. With its mix of infrastructure, coastal setting, and regular events, the town attracts both participants and spectators throughout the year.
Overall, the 2026 edition of the Triatló Ciutat de Gandia delivered a solid race despite less-than-ideal weather. For those involved, it was a reminder that triathlon is as much about adapting to conditions as it is about performance.
