Golden Hour at Playa de Gandia, Valencia
As the sun begins to set over the Mediterranean, Playa de Gandia transforms into one of the most beautiful locations on Spain’s eastern coastline. Warm golden light reflects across the sea, dramatic clouds create constantly changing colours in the sky, and the busy beaches gradually give way to a calmer evening atmosphere.
My latest drone video captures this special time of day over Playa de Gandia, one of the best-known beaches in the Valencian Community. Filmed during golden hour after passing rain showers, the combination of soft evening light and towering clouds to the south created spectacular conditions that only lasted for a short time before the sun disappeared below the horizon.
Golden hour is often considered the best time of day for photography and aerial filming. The lower angle of the sun produces warmer colours, softer shadows and a more natural look than the harsh midday sunshine. On this particular evening, those conditions combined with the clearing weather to produce a dramatic Mediterranean sky that constantly changed throughout the flight.

The video begins with sweeping aerial views across Playa de Gandia, showing the wide sandy beach stretching alongside the turquoise Mediterranean Sea. Even as the day draws to a close, the beach remains busy with walkers enjoying the cooler temperatures while others relax outside the many cafés, restaurants and beach bars that line the promenade.
Looking south, the dark rain clouds provide a striking contrast against the warm golden light falling across the coastline. These changing weather conditions often produce some of the most memorable sunsets on the Costa Blanca and Valencia coastline, making every evening slightly different from the last.
The drone footage also captures the Grau de Gandia and marina area, an important part of the town’s maritime history. Originally developed around Gandia’s fishing port, today’s marina is home to leisure boats, sailing clubs and waterfront restaurants. It remains one of the liveliest areas of the resort, especially during the evening when both locals and visitors gather to enjoy the sea views and relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere.
One of the things that makes Playa de Gandia stand out is its combination of natural beauty and modern facilities. The beach stretches for several kilometres, offering plenty of space even during the busy summer season, while the promenade provides an attractive place to walk, cycle or simply sit and enjoy the changing colours of the sky.
Drone footage is particularly effective at showcasing the scale of the area. From above, the long coastline, marina, palm-lined promenade and surrounding landscape come together to reveal why Playa de Gandia has become such a popular destination for both Spanish and international visitors.
Whether you’re planning a holiday on the Costa Blanca, looking for inspiration for your next trip, or simply enjoy relaxing aerial videos, sunsets like this remind us why the Mediterranean coast continues to attract millions of visitors every year.
