La Drova
La Drova must rank as one of the most beautiful, secluded and
convenient urbanisations in Spain. La Drova rests within a lush valley
bounded by mountains on two sides. Monduber, the highest mountain at
847m (2,500+), dominates the area with its sharp summit clearly visible
from all directions. These peaks give the area spring water you can
drink and verdant countryside that is the foreground for the spectacular
mountain views that form a beautiful backdrop everywhere you look.
La Drova ("The Drive") gets its name from being the lowest point that
sheep or cattle could be driven through the area. La Drova has existed
since medieval times and was given to the monks of Santa Maria de la
Valldigna in 1300 as a place for invalids to recover in the clean, cool
mountain air. It is a tranquil and beautiful valley, surrounded by
mountains, and is popular with summer visitors from Gandia and Barcelona
as well as various European people who have moved here permanently and
the many old Valencian families from Gandia and Barx who live here.
La Drova is located fifteen minutes drive to 7 kilometres of award
winning Blue Flag beaches of Gandia. We believe it to be one of the best
beaches on the Mediterranean, which is mainly frequented by Spanish
nationals. The international airports of Alicante (1 1/4 hrs) and
Valencia (50 minutes) are close by and easily accessible via the
excellent arterial A7 motorway. Madrid is four hours drive.
