We go to the Cremà of the Fallas in Gandia, a breathtaking spectacle where artistic monuments burn, marking the festival’s fiery conclusion.

We attend the Cremà of the Fallas in Gandia, the breathtaking bonfire conclusion to this great festival. Every year on March 19, Saint Joseph’s Day, the Cremà marks the conclusion of the festival as the amazing fallas monuments are set ablaze, a symbol of renewal and the passage of time.

The celebrations begin on March 15 with the Plantà, where over twenty fallas, including children’s monuments, are set up throughout the streets of Gandia. Made up of combustible materials, these highly ornate structures hold ninots—characters that construct satirical scenes ridiculing society, politics, or everyday life.

Before the Cremà, concerts, mascletàs (daytime fireworks) and parades bring the town to life. There is celebration on March 19 including a mass in tribute to Saint Joseph, and a final mascletà in the Town Hall Square.

Evening sees the commencement of the Cremà. The children’s fallas are ignited in Gandia around 9:00 PM, followed by the larger fallas at regular intervals. The winner of the first prize is burned last, concluding the festival with a flourish around 1:30 AM.

In 2025, the Vilanova Falla won first place in the Special Section for both its Main Monument and Children’s Monument, cementing its status as one of Gandia’s most prestigious commissions.

Other than bringing an end to the festival, the Cremà is also a moment of reflection—reminding us of the fleeting nature of life and the opportunity to rise from the ashes, ready for another cycle of celebration next year.

Asistimos a la Cremà de las Fallas en Gandía, la impresionante hoguera que pone fin a esta gran fiesta. Cada año, el 19 de marzo, día de San José, la Cremà marca el final de las fiestas con la quema de los impresionantes monumentos falleros, símbolo de renovación y del paso del tiempo.

Las celebraciones comienzan el 15 de marzo con la Plantà, donde más de veinte fallas, incluyendo monumentos infantiles, se instalan por las calles de Gandía. Hechas de materiales combustibles, estas estructuras, muy ornamentadas, albergan ninots, personajes que construyen escenas satíricas que ridiculizan la sociedad, la política o la vida cotidiana.

Antes de la Cremà, conciertos, mascletàs (fuegos artificiales diurnos) y desfiles animan la ciudad. El 19 de marzo hay una celebración que incluye una misa en homenaje a San José y una mascletà final en la plaza del Ayuntamiento.

Por la tarde comienza la Cremà. En Gandía, las fallas infantiles se encienden sobre las 21:00, seguidas de las fallas mayores a intervalos regulares. El ganador del primer premio es el último en quemarse, clausurando el festival con una gran ceremonia sobre la 1:30.

En 2025, la Falla de Vilanova obtuvo el primer premio en la Sección Especial, tanto por su Monumento Principal como por el Monumento Infantil, consolidando su estatus como una de las obras más prestigiosas de Gandía.

Además de poner punto final a las fiestas, la Cremà es también un momento de reflexión, que nos recuerda la fugacidad de la vida y la oportunidad de resurgir de las cenizas, listos para un nuevo ciclo de celebraciones el año que viene.
