Late October 2024 witnessed the Valencia region being struck by a devastating DANA (Depresión Aislada en Niveles Altos), which led to catastrophic flooding and extensive damage to infrastructure. The event claimed more than 200 lives and vast damage to numerous municipalities.

The A-7 motorway, and specifically the bypass of Valencia, was severely affected. A viaduct between Quart de Poblet, on the A-7 between Silla and the A-3 junction, collapsed and resulted in a complete closure of the A-7. That road usually carries approximately 100,000 vehicles per day, and so the magnitude of the disruption was extreme. The collapse necessitated the diversion onto alternative routes, including the V-30 and V-31, although the alternatives were severely restricted.

In turn, a 550-meter temporary bypass was constructed at Quart de Poblet to re-open the link between the A-3 and A-7. The interim solution permitted traffic flow while a permanent reconstruction plan was under consideration. The extensive damage to the A-7 and its bypass worked to highlight the vulnerability of major infrastructure to weather extremes and the value of resilient infrastructure planning under conditions of climate change.

La autovía A-7, y en concreto la circunvalación de Valencia, se vio gravemente afectada. El derrumbe de un viaducto entre Quart de Poblet, en la A-7 entre Silla y el enlace con la A-3, provocó el cierre total de la A-7, vía por la que circulan unos 100.000 vehículos al día, por lo que la magnitud de la afectación fue extrema. El derrumbe obligó a desviarse por vías alternativas, entre ellas la V-30 y la V-31, aunque las alternativas estaban muy restringidas.

A su vez, se construyó una variante temporal de 550 metros en Quart de Poblet para reabrir el enlace entre la A-3 y la A-7. La solución provisional permitió el flujo de tráfico mientras se estudiaba un plan de reconstrucción permanente. Los extensos daños en la A-7 y su circunvalación pusieron de relieve la vulnerabilidad de las principales infraestructuras a los fenómenos meteorológicos extremos y el valor de una planificación de infraestructura resiliente en condiciones de cambio climático.
