The Mascletá of March 19th in Gandia is the culmination of the Fallas festival, ending days of celebration with a concentrated mixture of sound, rhythm, and tradition. Due to the big event before the Cremà (when they burn the fallas monuments), this huge pyrotechnic show takes place at midday on Avinguda del Marqués de Campo, in front of the Gandia Railway Station, attracting thousands who want to feel the ground trembling beneath their feet. Unlike a typical firework display, a Mascletá is all about the carefully timed, ear-splitting explosions used to create a dizzying experience. It starts with low-grade firecrackers, building louder and more intense until it reaches the climax, the “Terremoto” (earthquake effect), where hundreds of firecrackers explode successively one after the other.

Gandia’s Mascletá of the 19th of March is especially noteworthy because it celebrates Saint Joseph’s Day, Saint Joseph being the patron saint of woodworkers, and acts to herald ultimate Fallas frenzy. Citizens and visitors alike converge to observe the magnificent spectacle feel the vibration in their very bones. La Mascletá del 19 de marzo en Gandía es la culminación de las Fallas, poniendo fin a los días de celebración con una intensa mezcla de sonido, ritmo y tradición. Debido al gran evento previo a la Cremà (cuando se queman los monumentos falleros), este enorme espectáculo pirotécnico tiene lugar al mediodía en la avenida del Marqués de Campo, frente a la estación de tren de Gandía, atrayendo a miles de personas que desean sentir el suelo temblar bajo sus pies. A diferencia de un castillo de fuegos artificiales típico, una Mascletá se centra en las explosiones ensordecedoras, cuidadosamente sincronizadas, que se utilizan para crear una experiencia vertiginosa. Comienza con petardos de baja potencia, que van aumentando su volumen e intensidad hasta llegar al clímax, el “Terremoto”, donde cientos de petardos explotan uno tras otro. La Mascletá de Gandía del 19 de marzo es especialmente notable porque celebra el día de San José, patrón de los carpinteros, y anuncia el frenesí fallero definitivo. Ciudadanos y visitantes se reúnen para presenciar el magnífico espectáculo y sentir la emoción en sus huesos. Una tradición conmovedora que refleja la tradición valenciana, obsesionada con el fuego y el ruido, que provoca una descarga de adrenalina en todos los participantes, ¡imborrable!
