La Vall d’Ebo is a picturesque valley in the Spanish province of Alicante, itself bounded by mountainland in the region of the Marina Alta. Its stunning scenery, lush foliage, and historic towns make this a popular holiday resort for cycling and walking enthusiasts and nature enthusiasts.

The bends in its road and the variety in its irregular topography, mixed terrain render the valley apt for cycles’ enthusiasts of challenging routes to see stunning countrysides at some of its dramatic vistas around its mountains, including the seacoast Mediterranean shoreline.

La Vall d’Ebo was hard hit in 2023 by a gigantic fire that took place at the start of the summer months. The fire spread quickly across the parched land under the sweltering temperatures and powerful gusts of wind, leveling gigantic sections of forest land, leaving tens of thousands of hectares of charred remains behind, as well as threatening several valley villages, including Ebo, with engulfment. The emergency services toiled nonstop to battle the fire, evacuating residents and protecting homes.

Not only did the wildfire cause immense environmental destruction but also left a permanent imprint on the local population, disrupting life and threatening the natural beauty of the area. Restoration work began soon after the fire was contained, with efforts focused on replanting the burned lands and re-establishing local infrastructure. The incident highlighted the growing concern regarding wildfires in Spain, fueled by climate change.
