Muixeranga de la Safor is a Gandia-based cultural organization, founded in 2002 and focused on reviving the traditional muixeranga, a traditional Valencian performance art presented in the shape of human towers and choreographed figures. There exists some mention of a muixeranga company dating back to 1875 in historical records, but today’s company is part of the broader current-day revival of this unique festive tradition rather than a continuation.

Nowadays, the Muixeranga de la Safor consists of around 100 people of all ages belonging to towns throughout the comarca of La Safor. Families participate en masse, including grandparents, parents, and children, together in the shows. This familial attitude turns the association not just into a performance company but into a community activity that reinforces local identity and cultural heritage.

Their repertoire blends the traditional muixeranga figures—such as human towers and coordinated formations to the accompaniment of dolçaina and tabal—with novel creations that expand the tradition.

Some of their own compositions include:

Llidoner: Founded on the classic “Morera” figure, in a 6-3-1-1-1 form. First played on Gandia in honour of the centenary hackberry tree (llidoner) of Ador.

Auriba: Conceived by member Rafa Lorente, this character is composed of a 6-6-3-1-1 frame and takes the name of the ancient Latin title of Oliva, “Auriba.”

The group has also achieved another record in having completed its first five-story human tower, along with other muixeranga groups of the Valencian Community.

Existe alguna mención de una compañía de muixeranga que data de 1875 en los registros históricos, pero la compañía actual forma parte de una recuperación más amplia de esta singular tradición festiva, más que una continuación.

Actualmente, la Muixeranga de la Safor está formada por unas 100 personas de todas las edades, procedentes de pueblos de toda la comarca de La Safor. Las familias participan masivamente en los espectáculos, incluyendo abuelos, padres e hijos. Esta actitud familiar convierte a la asociación no solo en una compañía de espectáculos, sino en una actividad comunitaria que refuerza la identidad local y el patrimonio cultural.

Su repertorio combina las figuras tradicionales de la muixeranga —como torres humanas y formaciones coordinadas con acompañamiento de dolçaina y tabal— con creaciones novedosas que amplían la tradición.
